RYA Yachtmaster Ocean Shore Based Course

The RYA Yachtmaster Ocean course is for those aspiring to blue water cruising and is ideal for holders of the Yachtmaster Offshore certificate who are preparing for their first ocean passage.

Prior to the course your navigation skills should be at the standard of the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore shorebased course.

If you are working towards your Yachtmaster Ocean Certificate of Competence, completion of this shorebased course exempts you from the written exam.

All students enrolling in this course will also receive a free copy of Tom Cunliffe's Ocean Sailing book

Course topics include:

Practical guide to use and care of sextant at sea
The earth and the celestial sphere
Meridian altitudes
Sun, star and other sights
Ocean passage planning
Worldwide meteorology

Course options:

We appreciate that finding time for courses can be difficult therefore we offer this course over 8 evenings & 1 weekend - 1 evening per week 6.30pm to 9.30pm plus 1 weekend at the end.
